Fever, cough and loss of sense of smell and taste were the symptoms most closely associated with the new coronavirus, but as the range of variables increases, so does the list of symptoms. The latest update from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) adds other scenarios that citizens should be aware of in order to prevent the spread of infection.
Fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are also part of the set of symptoms to consider. However, it is important to remember that millions of people have been infected and had no symptoms, so any risky contact should also be evaluated.
Symptoms of a delta variable
According to CNBC, the delta variant – which has reached more than 80 countries and has become dominant in Lisbon – may show various symptoms. In addition to having a higher level of transmission, it can also mix up potential infections.
“It’s like a bad cold in these young people and people don’t realize them,” explains Tim Spector, head of the Zoe Covid Symptom UK study. This study allows citizens to download an app and report symptoms of Covid-19 in order to find patterns.
“Since the beginning of May, we have been looking at the main symptoms in the application and they are not what they used to be,” the expert warns. Cited in the same publication, it states that headache is the most common symptom, followed by sore throat, runny nose and fever.
Other symptoms that are more common for Covid-19, such as coughing and loss of smell, have been found to be rare among those with the variant delta virus.
Another study conducted in England, between June 2020 and January of this year, reports other symptoms associated with this new type: chills, loss of appetite, headache, and muscle aches.
