“Carlos Carvalhal returns home.” This is how Sporting de Braga begins their statement announcing Carlos Carvalhal’s official membership at the club, confirming what he said: More football I already realized.
The 58-year-old Portuguese coach has signed a two-season contract. The coaching staff will also consist of Joao Mario, Joao Meireles, Filipe Antunes, Thiago Pires, Eduardo Carvalho and Orlando Silva.
Carvalhal will coach Braga for the third time. The first was in the 2006/07 season, when he was taking his first steps in his career. He then spent a period between 2020 and 2022, preceded by adventures in the United Arab Emirates (Al Wahda), Spain (Celta Vigo) and Greece (Olympiacos). He was also a footballer for the club.
This comes after the surprise dismissal of Daniel Sousa on Sunday evening, after just four official matches at the helm of the club. Two consecutive home draws, against Servette and Estrela da Amadora, were enough for Antonio Salvador to make this decision.
According to More football, Braga’s management felt that there was no qualitative development from one match to the next, since the beginning of the pre-season, and the results and recent performances ended up hastening the decision. However, the official source of the club says that there is no disagreement between Antonio Salvador and Daniel Sousa.
