António Arnau, founder of the National Health Service (SNS), was mentioned this afternoon in Coimbra, during an event aimed at celebrating the role of the Socialists in the “April Building”. [de 1974].
The former Minister of Social Affairs and lawyer, who died in 2018, was one of the founders of the Socialist Party and the Grand Master of the Grande Oriente Lusitano (Freemasonry).
“PS Group of Coimbra in April Building” is the slogan of the event that will be held at the Colégio da Trindade, where, for example, António Campos, Luís Marinho, Manuel Machado, Teresa Alegre and Miguel Correa (son of Fausto Correa).
Opening session, at 3 p.m., with the participation of João Nuno Calvão da Silva (Vice-Rector of the University of Coimbra), Álvaro Beleza (President of SEDES – Economic and Social Development Association), Fernando Santos Pereira (of the Civicus Association), Jorge Lacao (Association of Former Deputies of the Council of the Republic) and Albino Almeida (National Association of Municipal Associations).
The same initiative related to the Public Security Directorate took place on June 21.
António Campos, who has just turned 86, is one of the founders of PS, like other deceased residents of Coimbra (Antonio Arnau, Fernando Vale and Francisco Ramos da Costa). The writer Manuel Alegre, who was a member of the Council of State, Governor and Vice-President of the Council of the Republic, is another socialist figure with links to Coimbra.
