The Portuguese Geographical Information System for Tourism (SIGTUR) now has a “renewed look, more features and easier use”.
Information released by Turismo de Portugal reveals that “the platform integrates new technological solutions” and “makes an English version available.”
SIGTUR has an interactive viewer, which “allows you to cross-reference information by topic on the same map, and thus export the referenced information.” This function allows, for example, to “select a geographical area and display accommodation located near different tourist offers, such as tourist entertainment agents or surfing sites”.
Among the most prominent features of the platform are GIS applications with direct connection to open data on three topics: accommodation, activities and tourism planning. “Here, the user can search by administrative regions, from NUTS II to parishes; consult the backlog of projects and local housing. And download the data in different formats (e.g. CSV, GeoJSON…),” according to the Turismo de Portugal website.
Users can also access an area dedicated to “potential accommodation with positive opinion from Turismo de Portugal and supply and demand indicators”, which offers “new dashboards and graphs with development year on year, for example: seasonality or tourist density”.
The platform also contains information about featured projects, emerging topics and trends in the sector.
