If you are like me and love GIFs everywhere, know that Instagram has allowed the use of this type of animated image in the comments field of posts made on the social network. The novelty will be gradually released to all users along with the updated application on their mobile phones.
what do you want to know:
- Instagram is finally starting to allow comments with GIFs in the comments of posts that are made to the feed
- The novelty applies to social networking apps on Android and iPhone, as long as they are updated to the latest version.
- The GIF search platform is GIPHY, which was acquired by Meta in 2020 and is found in other in-house products such as WhatsApp and Facebook.
- The version is global and you can use the new feature now
This week, in a conversation between Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, and Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, the company announced a new feature that includes the best way to comment on social networks: GIFs. The idea is simple and straightforward: open the comments field of any post and select this type of content.
As with other social networks, the database that Instagram uses to find GIFs is GIPHY and it already has a large number of options for those looking for dancing cats, dogs making faces, Nazaré Tedesco making an account, or any other.
Animated GIFs are already on Facebook and WhatsApp
The existence of the GIPHY platform is not a coincidence, as it was bought by Meta in 2020 and is already part of other company products such as WhatsApp and Facebook, but it also appears on Elon Musk’s competitor Twitter.
Adding GIFs to comment on posts made to the feed is fun for users, but it’s a bit late when we think of other products in the house. The photo and video social network has been using short gifs in Stories for some time now and allows you to reply to that post with the same type of message.
In the announcement, Instagram said GIFs are now available on its social networking apps for Android and iPhone starting Wednesday (17), as long as they have been properly updated by the Play Store or App Store. I’ve tested it on both operating systems and can’t find the new option.
