DrDiscovered in South Africa and considered highly concerning and contagious by the World Health Organization, it is the Omicron variant currently prevalent in Portugal. Since South African health authorities issued the warning on November 24, infections have been reported in at least 110 countries.
With that in mind, The Sun has compiled the five stages of infection caused by the new strain. see below:
The first stage: contact with an infected person
Most likely, you haven’t noticed or aren’t sure if it’s positive. “But if you spent more time indoors, without ventilation, you are more likely to have caught the virus there,” wrote The Sun.
Stage two: there are still symptoms
The second stage lasts for about two or three days without symptoms. However, remember that there are people without symptoms.
The third stage: the first symptoms
You’ll likely start to have lower back pain, night sweats, and a sore throat. Other symptoms include headache, muscle aches, runny nose, sneezing, nausea and loss of appetite.
Fourth stage: the test
Testing should be performed in suspected high- and low-risk patients and contacts with a confirmed case. If you have the symptoms described in stage 3, you are likely to be positive.
Fifth stage: isolation
If the test result is positive or you notice symptoms, you should go into isolation. This Wednesday, the fifth, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) announced that the isolation period for asymptomatic people who have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and have mild illness will be seven days from today. The rules updated by the DGS also reduce to seven days of isolation of high-risk contacts, but change the definitions of these contacts, which will not take effect next Monday.
