“There will be no discussions on European security without our European allies and partners,” said Jen Psaki, a White House spokeswoman.
Psaki admitted that the US government was already aware of the demands of Moscow, which intends to significantly reduce NATO’s military influence in Eastern Europe, including Ukraine.
Russia calls on NATO to abandon any military activity on the territory of Ukraine and several countries in Eastern Europe, and today proposed immediate negotiations with the United States to avoid an escalation of tension along the borders of Ukraine.
We have been successful in negotiating with Russia on security issues for decades (…). There is no reason why we should not continue down this path. But we will do it in partnership and coordination with our European allies and partners,” Psaki explained.
The White House spokeswoman added, referring to Moscow’s request to withdraw Ukraine’s invitation to join NATO.
For several weeks, the United States insisted on its desire to work in close consultation with European allies, without objecting, however, to the start of negotiations with Russia.
