Carolina João and Diogo Costa earned another Olympic certificate for Portugal in sailing, by finishing fifth in the final table of the 470 Mixed, and at the end of their competition, they were satisfied with the way they performed, although they regretted leaving them so close to the medals (6 points away).
“The regatta leaves us with a bit of a mixed feeling. It was mathematically possible, but very complicated. The Olympic certificate and the fifth place are great, especially since Carolina started competing with the boat three years ago. And here we are competing against people who have more time in sailing than us. It’s great, there are not many words,” said Diogo Costa.

“If it depends [chegar à medalha] “Just us, yeah. Unfortunately, we depended on others, and they had to have a bad day. We still thought it was possible, but we saw that the Swede who came in fourth was in good shape and we couldn’t overtake him. But happy and proud, in the medal it was clear that we fought to believe until the end. It didn’t happen, but we got fifth place, it’s an Olympic certificate.”
Diogo Costa
“Was everything okay in the regatta? There was an area in the first bowl that wasn’t perfect, but it was good. We were able to recover, it was good in that aspect. I don’t know if we could have done too much, but by focusing on ourselves, it was very good.”

“[Dupla para manter?] “No doubt! We want to continue, we have the desire, and we are excited. It’s going to Los Angeles.”
Diogo Costa
“Tomorrow the Los Angeles campaign begins. It was a happy day, especially considering the start of the championship. Whoever sees the end is different.”
Carolina Joao
“We started very badly and quickly turned things around. But we are not ones to give up, we are fighters and we turned things around.”
Diogo Costa
“We’re sorry they didn’t finish all the regattas, but you never know. We lost time, then we won. There were two more races left, but that’s it.”
